Sump Pumps - The heart ans soul of the system

It can't be stressed stongly enough that the sump pump is an integral part of the waterproofing system. The system by itself is designed to efficiently relieve water pressure from the walls and floor and route it to the sump pit. This makes it important that the sump pump be there to remove the collected water. If there is no pump, the system will flood itself out, and the basement will eventually get wet.

Battery backup sump pumps, secondary sump pumps, backup power supplies are always a good option too. Pump redundancies are never a bad idea. Battery backup sump pumps move smaller amounts of water than primary sump pumps, but some is always better than none. The idea is that they run when the power goes out. Backup power supplies are units of stored power that convert battery voltage to standard houshold voltage, which will allow your primary sump pump to run during an outage. A secondary sump pump is a standard sump pump installed to activate when the water level in the sump pit is slightly higher than the level required to activate the primary sump pump. It will take over if the primary sump pump dies or gets overwhelmed.
It's very important to test the pumps manually at least once every few months. Or at least 2 to 3 days before the next big storm comes. This will give you time to replace it if need be.

GFCI oultlets are commonly required for sump pump power supply. They can easily trip themselves rendering your pump unpowered while the rest of your home has electric. You may not even know it. Always make sure that it is on.
